Scraps of Paper and Drawings For Paintings

For years I've kept a box where I throw drawings and sketches. Sometimes I'll do these things to work out a composition in advance, or sometimes during the painting process, if I run into trouble, a small study of some component or other is helpful.
At times I might make some drawings to determine if I want to proceed with a painting idea and then decide against it. Other times I just may do some drawing to loosen up for the painting process itself. In any case I was going through this box and decided to document the material. Usually pencil on scraps of paper, I don't consider these things to be works of art in themselves but since they are, or at least at various times have been part of my process, I thought it may be of interest for some of you If I posted the scraps I've found that connect to some of the work in my AP portfolio.
Follow the links to the images of the finalized paintings.

Interestingly, after all the work I put into studying the figure descending the stairs, in the end I didn't like it and drastically turned it into a kind of self portrait ascending the stairs. It seemed more correct and enigmatic.
